Types of Marriage Certificates Availiable (Public Versus Confidential)

There is the usual public marriage certificate, where your marriage is a part of the public record. In California, they also have a Confidential Marriage Certificate. The confidential marriage certificate is not part of the public record. This law probably originated because of all the rotisserie marriages between Hollywood movie stars that they wanted to keep confidential, if such a thing is possible in Hollywood. Way back, someone influential probably sponsored a state legislator in passing that legislation. In California, you cannot get a copy of a confidential marriage license without both marriage partners applying for a certified copy in person at the county clerks office together at the same time. This is one alternative if you are afraid of having Aunt Martha find out that you married that Russian girl. Some men I know who have married Russian wives have done so under confidential marriages. I guess they did this in case that the marriage didnt work out, there would be no public record of it. However, a confidential marriage does not relieve you of any legal responsibilities under the marriage laws of your state. Proof of the Soul

I worked for years in an engineering company trying to explain business terms to engineers. This gave me a great deal of practice when it came to explaining spiritual terms to non-spiritual people. This, of course, is enough to make a person schizophrenic. I would oscillate between left-brain and right-brain as needed. Like all business people, I learned to be flexible and to be in the left or right as needed. However, the major question (going back to my philosophy school days) is can we prove the existence of the soul? A great philosophical question almost as magnanimous as can we prove the existence of God. Since I spent many of my college days debating the proof of God’s existence, I will not error and try that again. However, years ago I knew the formula for proof of the soul. I was recently reminded of this point and decided to tackle this again. Years ago the spiritual community adopted the banner: “we are spirit with a body, not a body with a spirit.” This perspective and change of orientation launched major spiritual movements from understanding healing, psychic phenomenon to the launch of new more open type of religions such as Unity and Universalism. In fact, the flag– “I AM spirit” can be waved in multiple creeds, beliefs, ideas and sentiments. Mostly, it can be felt. It can be felt because when a person believes they are spirit foremost they behave differently. As spirit, I am responsible not only for my actions, but for my attractions. In other words, I am attracting: good, lessons, challenges, people that I like, other people, prosperity or lack, love or not love, care or not care. As spirit, I know my job is to emulate the Creator. This is what has led so many people to the study of Kabbalah. It is by connecting to the Divine qualities, the 13 aspects of the Divine, and using the correct role model, that we connect with our own Divine Soul. It is the understanding of the Oneness of our Creator and our Soul, that holds this unique connection to peace, consciousness and our evolving spiritual journey. Proof of the Soul: One can simply say, “the proof is in the pudding” and leave it as that. This would not be sufficient. When I was working on my PH.D in Philosophy, I did a talk on Albert Einstein as a philosopher. It was there, that I started to understand metaphysics on a much deeper level. Metaphysics sometimes is described as the gap between what physics can prove and physics cannot prove. It requires a theoretical assumption to bridge this gap. It also, can be described as the theories which define our world but which we have not yet proved. For example, the theory of atoms and gravity were metaphysical concepts for early scientists until sub atomic microscopes were invented. The world reacted as if these theories were true, but it could not be proven. On the other hand, (and I am not going there) can the concept of God be proven or dis-proven? Ever? UFO’s often take the same fate. Psychic phenomena also fall under this category. While studying Einstein though I came to a metaphysical theory just like he did: E=MC2 Energy= Mass * C(Speed) 2 This is Einstein’s first LAW of thermodynamics. In English, it says Matter & energy cannot be destroyed it can only be changed from one to the other. “On the most basic level, the equation says that energy and mass (matter) are interchangeable; they are different forms of the same thing. Under the right conditions, energy can become mass, and vice versa. We humans don’t see them that wayhow can a beam of light and a walnut, say, be different forms of the same thing?but Nature does.” Now, while I have had this discussion with ufologists and physicists, and have not necessarily been successful in proving my point, I believe that the answer to spirituality and proof of the soul lies in Einstein’s formula. If we, matter (mass) cannot be destroyed but can only be changed into energy, doesn’t this describe the spiritual ascent. The changing of our mass by raising of vibration. Yes, I understand that it may be a leap of faith that this energy retains its intelligence, its memory, its essence– however, why can’t it? Just as Nova says, “… a beam of light and a walnut can be different forms of the same thing?” Why can’t the human body and the soul be different forms of the same thing? Hmm, that actually makes sense in light of what Nova says. The leap that I might make is that instead of calling it energy i call it Light. How to Handle a Cheater
Saturday, January 26th, 2008By Lucia Demasi Finding out someone youre in a committed relationship with is being unfaithful can be devastating. Youre caught up in a whirlwind of fears and emotions. How should you handle this situation? As usual, I have a rather unorthodox approach. Have you ever seen the show Cheaters? I used to consider it a guilty pleasure until I realized it contained a wealth of knowledge for someone like me. Cheaters follows a suspect when their partner thinks they may be cheating. After gathering enough videotaped evidence, the suspecting partner (cheatee), the host, a tv crew consisting of several cameras and a lot of security confront the cheater in the act. This can be at a bar, nightclub, restaurant, hotel room, parked car, etc. After watching the show for many months, I began to notice a pattern. During the confrontation, one of three scenarios will usually take place. About 80% of the time, the cheater has the opposite reaction to that of their partner. This means, if the cheatee is upset and emotional, making comments such as, How could you? I gave you everything you wanted, the cheater has an attitude, often gets angry and sometimes runs away. The person theyve been cheating with usually had no idea they were involved in a triangle. It also works in reverse, in that if the cheatee says, Thats it. Its over. Im done the cheater usually responds with, Im sorry. I love you. Lets work it out. The remaining 20% of the time, both parties agree they either both want to stay together or they both say theyre done. From this pattern, I think its easy to see that when confronting an unfaithful partner, you should remain as calm as possible. This is a lot easier to do if you dont actually catch them in the act, but find out when theyre not around. Resist the urge to immediately call them up and demand an explanation. Do not contact them until you have calmed down and have decided exactly what youre going to do. This can range from a day (wait a minimum of 24 hours) to a week or more. I once found out through a third party that a guy I was seeing was cheating. This was the second time I had caught him, so while the emotional side of me didnt want to let go, intellectually, I knew it had to be over for good. We had had a disagreement the day before I found out, so we did not speak to each other for about 10 days. In that time, I walked around like a zombie, feeling very weak, not wanting to eat. I was grieving the loss of the relationship. When he finally showed up at my door, I was done. He tried to claim the person was a friend, but I didnt buy it. I was very calm and went about my business in the kitchen, while he stood there trying to lie his way out of it. After a few minutes I waved my hand and said, Go away. Im busy. His response, Ill see you later. Me: No you wont. Him: So its over? Me: Yes! What if you catch your partner in the act? My suggestion is that you say and do nothing. Simply look them in the eye, with no expression, then turn and walk away. I know 99% of you reading this are not going to be able to do it, but if you really want to know the truth, you need to let them show you what it is, either through their actions or non-actions. Losing control by yelling and causing a scene is never attractive, even if you feel justified. Put yourself in their shoes. If you were the one caught cheating, which reaction would shake you up more? Which reaction would you respect more? When you freak out, youre actually trying to bully and manipulate your partner into reacting to you in a way that will assure you that they still care for you. Youre like a child having a temper tantrum in order to get the attention you dont feel youre getting. Youre also giving their ego a big boost. Your actions are saying: You are so important to me that I am willing to lose control and act temporarily insane. You have that much power over me. Is that really the message you want to send? Thats why saying nothing and walking away is a better reaction. As we learned from Cheaters, they are more likely to be apologetic and want to work things out (if thats what you want) if you remain calm. By not having to defend themselves against your tirade, you give them the space to get in touch with their true feelings for you and your relationship. Not to mention the fact that their respect for you will rise immensely, since it takes strength to just walk away. We all want to be with someone that is emotionally strong. Even if theyve run after you and pleaded to talk to you, that is not the time to talk. You need to get over the shock of your discovery and they need to think about what theyve done. You now need to be incommunicado. The reason for this is because when people think theyve lost someone that was important to them, their true feelings come out. Its the old, Dont know what youve got till its gone. If they care, they will do whatever they have to, to get you back. If they dont, they wont and youre better off without them. Dont take their calls or answer the door until youre convinced that theyre ready to be honest. Leave them wondering for at least a week or two. If it does turn out that your partner had already moved on, but neglected to tell you, at least you walk away with your dignity, if you dont freak out. Why give them proof that their decision to leave was right, by acting like a psycho? If you cause a scene, you will forever be in their relationship hall of shame. If you walk away with your head held high, you will forever be in their relationship hall of fame. You could make the whole process much easier by taking the automatic route. The secret to losing weight automatically is not by making big changes to your diet or exercise routines. These routines never stick in the long run because they are way out of your comfort zone. Yes, you may very well suffer them for a week or two while your motivation to lose weight is high but it takes iron willpower to stick with them until you lose all the weight you want. And let’s face it unless you stick with them forever that weight all comes straight back on doesn’t it? Because you go right back to the habits you had before you went on your weight loss program. The ones that caused you to put all that weight on in the first place. No, the secret to losing weight automatically is to make small changes to your routines. Ones which will be barely detectable to others - only you will really know the difference. You make changes like taking time to enjoy your food more, moving a little bit more as you go about your day, learning how to deal with pressures from others to eat, stopping eating whenever you’re satisfied. And before you know it you are losing weight. Not only that but you have habits which you can stick to for life and which you’ll never need (or want) to change. What small changes could you make today which would mean that you eat a little bit less and move a little bit more? Could you live with those changes for life? Then start right now to make them a habit. Habits are built by repetition and like having a shower or brushing your teeth become an automatic part of you without having to think about it. To be slimmer forever you simply need slimmer habits - habits which keep your metabolism high enough to deal with the amount you eat over a period of time. How Long Will You Live?
Thursday, January 24th, 2008By Tracie Johanson Perhaps you’ve seen the latest health news…..scientists are concerned that our overweight and obese population will not live as long as previous generations. USA Today recently reported that “Obesity could shorten the average lifespan of an entire generation - today’s children - by two to five years, according to a controversial new life-expectancy analysis” (Source: Nanci Hellmich, USA TODAY). In ancient Rome, a newborn child could expect to live to 22. In the 1900’s, in the US, 49 was the average life expectancy. In 1991, the average life expectancy was 75 years. Between 1950-1980, the population of those over 65 doubled, and by the year 2025, the group of people aged 60 and over will have grown from 376 million in 1980 to 1.12 billion. (Source: Donna M. De Cunzo, R.D., L.D.) Life expectancy for Americans today is 77.6 years, an all-time high. But there’s no doubt about it: obesity and all the related physical problems that come with obesity, are causing some serious issues for us and our health. Now more than ever, it’s critical that we take the time to exercise and educate ourselves on healthy eating! Obesity is the problem, and WE can be part of the solution! Researchers at Tuft’s University have studied aging. They have come up with the following five factors, which they call biomarkers, that can help people live longer and improve the quality of their life. 1. DIET. As the body ages, it requires fewer calories. Men and women 55 and older need 150 to 200 fewer calories per day than those younger than age 55. This decrease may be due to a natural decline in metabolic rate and/or decreased physical activity. However, the need for essential nutrients does not changed. Thus, there is not much room for high calorie, low nutrient foods. According to the USDA’s Human Consumption Survey, those over 55 were found to consume less than 70% of the RDA for B6, B12, calcium, magnesium and vitamin A. Even for those who require special diets to treat diseases such as diabetes or high blood pressure, a diet low in animal products and high in fiber (from whole grains, fruits and vegetables) is beneficial. 2. LEAN BODY MASS. Lean body mass, or muscle mass, generally decreases at a rate of 2% per decade after age 40. When LBM decreases, disuse syndrome occurs, resulting in obesity, fragility, depression and decreased cardiovascular function. This is why it’s critical to engage in regular resistance exercise throughout life! 3. BODY FAT PERCENTAGE. Keeping body fat down and lean body mass up is important in preventing injury and disease. 4. AEROBIC CAPACITY. Exercise aerobically at least 3 times a week, keeping the heart rate at about 70% of maximum for 30 minutes or longer. 5. STRENGTH. Weight bearing exercise is especially important in reducing the risk of osteoporosis. Dr. Bill Evans studied a group of people at age 90 who needed assistance with daily tasks and had a history of falling. Dr. Evans had the group lift 80% of their one repetition maximum weight for an eight week period. After eight weeks, the group increased muscle strength by 60% and increased LBM by 10%. The take-home message is that obesity causes a lot of health problems. As a nation, our weight issue has gotten so out of hand that it may impact overall life expectancy. However, WE CAN BE PART OF THE SOLUTION by engaging in regular exercise (both aerobic and resistance exercise) and by watching what we eat. This is especially true as we get older. You think it’s because you just don’t have enough time and motivation to exercise. You think it’s because you love food and don’t quite have enough willpower to cut back sufficiently. You don’t have a clue! The real reason you’re gaining weight is going to shock you: it’s because you have the mind of a well-trained athlete. Don’t laugh quite yet. Have you ever noticed how fast athletes gain weight when they retire from competition? It’s freakish. The same reason that athletes are good at sports later causes them to bloat — they have especially “trainable” subconscious minds. If you understand the mechanism then you can learn to control your weight without diet, suffering or an inhuman exercise schedule. Weight Loss and your Athletic Mind Before I continue, I should say that it is true: the immediate cause of weight-gain is what you eat and how you live. I’m not preaching any pseudo-science here. However, controlling what you eat and how you live is elusively difficult and I will show you why. If you think you can change your behavior pattern with sheer willpower — then you just haven’t really tried yet. Sure, you and I pride ourselves in being rational adults, in control of our choices and our destiny. But that’s just a load of crap. We’re not talking calculus here, we’re talking about your sub-conscious mind — where deep emotions, established patterns, habit and instant responses live. You are a trinity of sorts, 1) a lazy body, 2) a clever and fickle conscious mind and 3) a lumbering but steady subconscious that does most of the work around here. You probably know already that the subconscious mind provides emotional responses to reinforce “good” behavior (like eating pizza) — but what you might not know is that the subconscious is also responsible for all athletic ability. Even the simple stuff like walking or typing is a constant interaction of conscious commands and unconscious responses. For example, when you learn to shoot a basketball, what you are actually doing is using the conscious mind to burn in a pattern which develops into a subconscious skill-set. When you’ve truly mastered a move, you “no longer have to think about it”. If you’re still thinking about the mechanics of a dance step — it’s a sign that you have not “learned it” yet. That is, your subconscious cannot yet take over. Once you have “learned” the skill, your conscious mind need only call out the command and the subconscious does the action. To better understand your psychology, let’s liken your mind to a couple animals: imagine a Chimp riding on the back of an Elephant. The subconscious mind is like a slow dumb strong elephant while your conscious mind is like the clever fast chimp. Seriously, just imagine the chimp wresting the elephant. Where’s the “brute force” of the chimp? The elephant’s just going to sit on him and the game is over. That, by the way, is exactly where every diet ends when supported by willpower alone. The subconscious is a powerful part of your mind. You can control it through persuasion but not with brute force. The Elephant, the Stick and the String In Indonesia, elephants are used in construction work because they are so powerful and yet obedient. All day long the elephant moves hundreds of tons of stone and wood and at night he taken to his bed of straw and tied up. Do you know how big the rope is required to hold an elephant? It’s just a little string tied to a stick driven into the ground. You see, when the elephant was very young, he was tied with the same stick and string — and he was too little to pull free. For the rest of his life, he remembers this and never questions the superior strength of the little stick and string. Think about it. What are you really capable of? To be blunt, you have no idea. Your limitations are defined by childhood experience — and bear no relation to your adult capabilities. Like the elephant, you are emotionally tethered by childhood ideas. Most of your adult personality is just a protective cage built by a scared child. What would you give to have the power to redefine yourself? Now for the good news: you’re not just an elephant, you’re also part chimp! That could have sounded better but never mind. Your mind has a small, clever, conscious aspect that gives you the ability to reprogram your entire mind. That’s right, your conscious mind (the chimp) has the ability to completely re-write and take control of your entire mental reality. This ability defines humans — it makes us the most flexible animals on earth and it allows us to train our minds to do amazing things. From playing concert piano to extreme sports, the vast power of the mind is tapped by this uniquely human capability. Ok, so what does all this have to do with weight loss? Remember, the elephant learns and repeats patters of behavior that are taught to it — so the real question is “how to teach the subconscious”. Here’s the simple single trick that people need to understand. If you understand this simple principle then you can be the master of your own mind. You will also understand why our educational system doesn’t work (but that’s another article entirely). Our subconscious mind ignores most of what we tell it because we bark at it in the wrong language. The language of the subconscious mind is EMOTION. Using the barometer of our emotion, the subconscious mind is able to determine the importance of any particular behavior. For example, say that you’re trying to learn a new skill. You’re working hard to learn but you are not enjoying the task and your emotions are saying “this sucks, I wish I were elsewhere, how much longer is this going to take?” Well, it’s going to take a lot longer because you’re broadcasting to your subconscious mind the message “ignore this activity, just move along, there’s nothing to see here.” What was your emotional state, and how easily did you learn in high school? It may not feel like it but you’re in full control of your conscious emotions. And this is the fundamental method of programming the subconscious mind. It is, without a doubt, a form of natural hypnosis. Whereas traditional hypnosis works by moving aside the conscious mind, emotional programming works by using the conscious mind - but to the same effect. Now for the dark side: remember how I mentioned that have three aspects? Body, conscious and subconscious? Well, as it turns out, your body is busy programming your subconscious mind all the time. For example, you’re hungry so you bite into a slice of thick cheesy pizza — at which point your body screams out (on an emotional level) “this is good activity, very very good activity”. Food cravings are actually subconscious patterns based on years of such programming. Thankfully, the mind is fully re-programmable. Now that you understand the basic mechanics of programming your mind, you can put it into practice right away. What you are going to do is to replace food cravings with exercise cravings. This technique is fun and very powerful because, rather than working against years of food programming, you’re going to do some mental Ju-Jitsu and simply translate an existing food craving into a desire for exercise. Magic? It’s better! It’s quite simple: first of all you’re going to stop eating for a while (non-sugared drinks are ok). This is not a diet plan, we’re not yet trying to lose weight. We’re just trying to stimulate a hunger response. Now, when you begin to feel the initial sense of hunger, do this: Breathe in deeply, relax, and feel the hunger — then don’t think of food. Instead, imagine yourself doing sit-ups and absolutely loving it. That’s right, visualize yourself hungry and doing sit-ups and let a feeling of joy and satisfaction flood over you. Then return to whatever you were doing. In a few minutes, when the next pang of hunger comes, repeat this mental exercise. Keep it up for an hour or so and then go have a light snack. While you are eating (especially while you are eating) visualize yourself doing sit-ups and loving it. Associate in your imagination hunger, food, situps and joy. Hunger, Food, Sit-ups and Joy? He’s Crazy Perhaps, but what you are doing is linking a desirable behavior to a very well established response pattern. You will be amazed at how you can use this technique to stimulate a deep urge to do sit-ups. The mind is truly amazing. By the way, after a few days go ahead and give into the urge to do some sit-ups. As you exercise, make sure to continue the emotional feedback by “letting” yourself enjoy exercise. If you feel yourself not enjoying the process, take control of your emotions right away or stop exercising. It’s not worth sabotaging your work to burn a few extra calories. Don’t push your body, push your mind! Your mind is the only gymnasium that really matters. Eventually, your mind will push your body and you will be able to enjoy the process. I remember several years ago when I first experimented with this technique. As I started craving situps, I realized that doing situps would physically relieve any sense of hunger for an hour or so. I thought I had stumbled upon the strangest diet plan ever, the “silly, happy, situp diet”. But really, what I had discovered was the ability to consciously sublimate deep cravings to accomplish a desired objective.
